The Art of Allowing & The Khemset Immersion

On the heels of the first Khemset Immersion event, which we designed to be Interactive, Imaginative, and Intuitive, it feels like a good time to write about what I see as perhaps the most pivotal aspect of intuition and accessing these higher faculties: allowance.

The way my intuition functions, in a general sense, is that I get a physiological sensation which I often feel in my heart or my gut, and other times it’s just a knowingness I feel more cognitively. I think it shows up in many ways for different people and at different times, and the only real way to learn to discern the signal more clearly is to begin trusting it and see where it leads you.

Some of the best advice I’ve ever gotten in life, which served as a very helpful reminder, is that one only really needs to know the next step. Understanding this aspect of the intuitive gift means understanding that trusting it will allow it to intelligently lead you. The fear, of course, is that if you trust it, you’ll be led astray and be worse for the wear. That fear is what causes us to grasp onto the logical mind as the sole arbiter of decision making.

The ability and willingness to go on a journey, an adventure, to explore your reality in its entirety, relies on your own willingness to be open to what is new & creative and to embrace the inherent uncertainty of life, rather than unnecessarily creating more of it through resistance.

One way I prepare myself to go on this adventure by engaging with the non-physical and putting myself in a comfortable state of allowing is to feel gratitude and even reverence for the experience of reality itself. Appreciating your life for the gift it truly is, for me, directly impacts the degree to which I can allow it to unfold, trusting that it is what I need to experience. If I know that the fabric of reality is love, and I trust that life will always unfold favorably for me (even if that means experiencing things that re‑align me by exposing ways in which I am misguided), then I am able to relax into it and know it’s to my benefit always.

With that in mind, I’ll share a bit about the recent Khemset Immersion. As I mentioned, the theme for the day was “Imaginative, Intuitive, Interactive.” We began by gathering the 20 attendees across three tables in the Sandstone room at the Mount Charleston Retreat, overlooking the beautiful mountain range. My wife and I introduced ourselves and shared some opening thoughts about coherence and intuition, especially how we engage with this aspect of our feeling ability relative to the more well‑known and commonly explored thinking capability.

After this, we shifted to exercises with the cards, akin to the Khemset Intuition Trainer app (also available on the web now at https://www.khemset.com/). This was really fun, as there were some wonderfully creative twists employed (which we strongly encouraged!) from various participants. After that we broke for lunch, had some more fun group experiences, and then my wife, Dr. Alyssa, shared her understandings of Chinese Medical Theory as it pertains to the nature of the mind-body system. She highlighted ways in which this framework conceptualizes internal states of coherence and the clarity of one’s intuition. We then headed outside and she led us through some Qi Gong underneath the sun in the fresh mountain air, where we were also blessed with perfect weather.

For the remainder of the day we had more fun with some light competition and experimentation, such as exploring whether or not the collective consciousness of the group could influence probability. Although the sample was very small, we were able to experience a shift in the intended direction, which was naturally exciting.

One notable and plausible theory posed by one of the guests, which I have explored previously and am generally inclined towards, is that reality, while appearing static and linear, is actually a multiverse where all moments exist in the here and now. This could explain the ability we have, especially when in resonance with a group, to navigate to a desired reality more efficiently. As you can probably tell, I really enjoy the metaphysics of reality and understanding the underlying structure as I believe this is one of if not the only things that does not change.

All in all, my wife and I had a great time and so did the participants. We’re likely going to hold another one later this year based on the overwhelmingly positive response. It was fun and liberating to explore these ideas in a group setting without poker as the focal point, but it also occurred to me that there was notable interest in tying these ideas into poker. With the benefit of hindsight, we will likely refine the experience and curate one that is more specific to intuition and other soft skills in poker, in the next iteration of the Khemset Immersion.
